Martindale-Hubbell moves towards Web 2.0

Vice President of Client Development at LexisNexis, Barry Solomon, comments on Web 2.0 and the recent enhancements made to Martindale-Hubbell's flagship website at martindale.com

The PM Forum in the UK recently released a survey of its members. You can see what their members think here:

Interesting that most lawyers, accountants, and marketing professionals (this wasn’t broken out) understand Web 2.0 stands for social networking and user controlled content.

The vast majority of respondents say their organizations don’t yet have any policy governing their use, yet within legal, just as many respondents see social networking as a problem as see it as harmless (around 35% each). And managing partners feel it’s more of a problem than do marketing professionals.

Here at Martindale-Hubbell as we continue our focus on providing more value to buyers of legal services and connecting lawyers with these potential clients, we’ve just introduced a new feature moving us toward leveraging social networking. (I prefer the term professional networking in the context of the legal profession.) You can learn more about that new feature called "My Martindale Network"

I remember as a young associate at a big Chicago law firm how much the introduction of email changed my practice. The first time I sent the partner in charge a memo by email, he came to my office and explained that I had to print it out and send it by inter-office mail because “email will never catch on within law firms since it was harmful to the profession.” Sound familiar?
