How corporate counsel use Martindale-Hubbell

(New Providence) Martindale-Hubbell conducted an online survey in December 2006, focusing on how martindale.com is used by key members of large organisations and companies. In total, 465 people responded to the survey, including Ceos and managing directors, general counsel, and associate general counsel. Participating companies ranged in size from 1 to 700,000+ employees, with legal departments ranging from 1 to 2,000 members.
In the last year the number of individuals registering to use martindale.com has increased to approximately 60,000 users. About 52,000, or 32%, of these come from large corporations (according to martindale.com internal registrations). Our survey reveals 97% of corporate counsel using martindale.com are satisfied with Martindale-Hubbell; nearly all use Martindale-Hubbell regularly, with 60% using it at least monthly.
Martindale-Hubbell is an important tool in the law firm evaluation and selection process. Corporate counsel report using martindale.com more and more frequently to validate referrals that they receive externally, as well as using Martindale-Hubbell to select firms to approach for their “preferred provider” panels. When in-house counsel do not have any direct referral, almost 90% of respondents report using Martindale-Hubbell to find outside counsel in new jurisdictions.
