Martindale-Hubbell has a rich history within the global legal profession and has played a key role connecting in-house counsel and private practice lawyers and law firms since the 19th Century when the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory was first published. As the market has evolved, so Martindale-Hubbell has adapted the many ways it facilitates introductions and connections between these two groups – be they in-print, online or in-person. The Martindale-Hubbell Counsel to Counsel programme is an example of ‘in-person’ facilitation in practice.
Since the C2C programme began in 2000 more than 110 forums have been held worldwide, involving over 1,500 senior corporate counsel. Events themselves are informal (off-the-record) discussions, each one typically involving between 14 and 25 senior counsel.
Discussion topics focus on topical ‘issues of the day’ and attendees are encouraged to come fully prepared to share with the group whatever ideas and best practices they have regarding the subject under discussion and how this can impact the management of their legal departments.
At the many sessions we hold around the world, in-house delegates tell us again and again the value that comes from being able to join a group that is prepared to openly discuss departmental management, their changing role and the operational and strategic challenges they face.
With more Counsel to Counsel sessions now being held in new locations worldwide, it is becoming easier for in-house counsel to find a session in a convenient location they can attend. However, recognising that it may not always be possible to attend in person, twice a year we produce this Counsel to Counsel Summary of Findings which captures the key discussion points and takeaways from sessions held.
This second summary of findings for 2005 covers Counsel to Counsel sessions held in Tokyo in September, London in October, and for the first time, Shanghai in November.
