Client Review
LexisNexis Martindale Hubbell; Client Review provides in-house counsel and other sophisticated buyers of legal services with client recommendations of a law firm's client service, quality of legal representation and value for money.
Client Review has been introduced with the needs of sophisticated buyers of international legal services particularly in mind. For many years buyers have requested a reliable resource providing anonymous client feedback and comments on law firms.
The entire Client Review process is facilitated independently by Martindale-Hubbell. At its centre is a straightforward online survey which the clients of a law firm subject to Client Review will complete. The findings and feedback from these surveys are aggregated by Martindale-Hubbell before being forwarded to the subject firm to review. Responses and feedback are not attributed to individual respondents.
Overview
Client Review is a client feedback programme facilitated independently and anonymously by Martindale-Hubbell on behalf of its law firm members;
MH member firms nominate their client references within the secure online Client Service Centre (CSC);
Client References are sourced either from:
- The subject law firm (they are 'nominated';) or
- Directly from International in-house counsel community ('client sourced';)
Nominated clients references are approached by Martindale-Hubbell and asked to complete the short online Client Review survey;
Within this survey, clients are asked whether they recommend the subject firm in a number of 'service' and 'delivery' areas such as;
- Client service, quality of legal representation, and value for money
- Geography, practice area and industry sector
Responses are returned to MH and aggregated (to keep responses anonymous).

FAQ’s
- Q. Why should law firms participate?
-
A. Sophisticated buyers of legal services are reluctant to select a law firm not recommended to them. Recent research undertaken by Martindale-Hubbell in 2007 confirms the importance of referrals and recommendations in the identification, evaluation and selection of outside counsel.
Referrals are vital in the identification and selection of external counsel:
- 92% of in-house counsel considers personal recommendations to be important or very important in the identification of external counsel.
- 64% of in-house rely on personal referrals as the basis/foundation of their final selection decision
Given the importance of referrals and recommendations in the external counsel selection process, Martindale-Hubbell Client Review has adopted a recommendation-based approach to the Client Review survey. Below are just a few of the comments we have received to date about the service:
